Farm is a Values-led school, which means our values underpin everything we do. We have achieved several awards which support our work. Our assemblies follow a planned programme of 22 values over a 2 year cycle. In addition, children learn about their Rights and Responsibilities, Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning and Values through PSHE, Circle Times, Talking and Thinking and Philosophy for Children lessons and through other lessons where there is a direct link.
Our Awards Rights Respecting Level 2 Award Activemark We are working towards our Green Flag Award and the Full International School Award. Our awards celebrate our commitment to the development of healthy choices and lifestyles for the whole community. Our aim is for everyone in our school to be happy, healthy, safe, supported and motivated. Unicef’s Rights Respecting Schools Award: Unicef have adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and work across the world to make children’s rights a reality for all children, encouraging children themselves to take on responsibilities towards others. In learning about their rights, our children understand that to enjoy their rights they have to become rights respecters. Children learn that they have responsibilities in our school, our community and our wider world. Although we have achieved our level 2 award, we will continue to learn about rights and responsibilities, focusing on children’s active participation in decision making in all areas of school life, and learning about global issues and how children can make changes happen.
Our 22 Values:
For our renewed Healthy Schools Award we will be continuing to explore:
Bell Farm achieved the Foundation Level International Award in 2009/10, following a number of international activities including a ‘rights-respecting’ International Week and developing a link with Kashangura School in Uganda. Preparations are underway for the Full Award and we hope to receive this recognition of our international work later this year. The Activmark rewards the delivery of the national PE & Sport Strategy. Schools are automatically assessed each year through the national school sport survey, which all School Sport Partnership schools take part in. Schools receive the mark if at least 90% of pupils across the school are doing at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport a week. The Green Flag Award is the highest environmental award possible for schools and is earned by having a rigorous program of promoting sustainability throughout the school curriculum. Recent innovations have included: measuring our lunch waste, creating our own Bell Farm bag for life, year group gardens, composting fruit and lunch waste. We are currently looking forward to redeveloping our wildlife area with a new greenhouse and a community allotment!
